Murder Eyez (Aleppo)
Hailing from the ancient city of Aleppo, Murder Eyez was the first Syrian rap act on the Middle Eastern scene. The 4 members came together in 1999, under the name Machine Gun, and performed tributes to famous American rappers, imitating the ‘gangsta rap’ style. They soon changed their group name to Murder Eyez and began writing original lyrics in Arabic and English. They performed throughout Syria and eventually became known as the #1 Hip Hop group in the country, a title made official by their victory at a rap competition in Damascus in 2005. Since then, they have become an important part of the pan-Arab Hip Hop movement, known as the Arab Summit, collaborating with well-known artists in the Middle East and abroad, and declaring what they call the “963 Revolution”. Murder Eyez is currently working on their debut album.

Epic promo video for Murder Eyez, complete with sunburst and operatic techno theme, but it’s still unclear to me what Abdul Rahman, aka. Don Mega, stands for as a Syrian MC. What is clear, however, is that he’s ditched the other members of Murder Eyez and is goin out on his own.
The first video from Murder Eyez, featuring a beat by FredWreck and directed by Mr. Markus. Not sure I follow the narrative but it certainly shows Murder Eyez in the club spotlight, which is where he seems to want to be. Hopefully, 2010 will reveal more of Murder Eyez’ vision.
