Fool-Proof Moving

Moving to a new home can be exciting and stressful at the same time. There so many things to do and prepare. You might get caught up with packing and forget some important details like securing your personal belongings. Here are some reminders when you are getting ready to move to your new address.

  •  The first is to assess your things. Classify things that you will be bringing with you and stuff that you will be letting go of. You can give away unwanted items or sell them to get extra cash for your move. This will also minimize your storage expense.
  • Carefully plan the date of your transfer. Give yourself extra time for packing because it is time-consuming. Three weeks is a good allowance.
  • Organize your things. Separate things that are breakable. You can recycle old newspapers and wrappers and use them as protectors. Use an additional cushion at the bottom. Fill in empty spaces to keep them from moving. Remember to write the word fragile so the person carrying the box will take extra caution.
  • Use sturdy boxes. Avoid using plastic bags as they may easily break. Play your part for the environment and reuse old cartons. Do not forget to label your boxes to save time when looking for certain items.
  • Safely store packed goods in one area. Use empty spaces like a garage, empty room, or living room. Place all items in one place to avoid clutter.
  • Collect all flammable items and keep them out of reach to children. Put in a fireproof container if available.
  • Use tight seal plastic containers for belongings that need to stay away from dust. Like pillows, linens, pillowcases, bedsheets, clothes and etc.
  • Keep important documents with you at all times. We often lose things when we are moving.
  • If you want to rent moving storage, make sure it is big enough to accommodate all your things. Making two trips will be a hassle.
  • If you are thinking about hiring a professional moving company, double-check their references. Check their licensing and documentation. You want to be assured of quality service. Review the contract before signing. Make sure to note down all agreements. And lastly, verify their insurance policy. You would want your belongings to be assured and arrive safely in your new home.
  • Your relocation can be easy if you follow an organized plan. Stay calm and do not let anxiety take over you. You have many options to make your move smooth, safe, and secure.
